Therapy for Neurodivergent Adults (ADHD & Autism)

Neurodivergent-Affirming Therapy Online

I offer online therapy across the UK, working from a neurodivergent-affirming perspective. Many of the adults I work with identify as ADHD, autistic, AuDHD, or otherwise neurodivergent, whether formally diagnosed, self-identified, or questioning.

Neurodivergence may not be the reason why you’re coming to therapy; you might be navigating relationship difficulties, attachment anxiety, burnout, trauma, or a general sense of feeling like something isn’t quite right. But the way your nervous system works, and how you process information, sensory input and connection, will inevitably have a significant impact on how you experience and meet the world.

Living in a predominantly neurotypical world can be pretty exhausting. Masking, misunderstanding, chronic self-doubt, or the sense of being “too much” or “not enough” can accumulate over time. Therapy can offer a space where your ways of thinking, feeling and relating are not treated as deficits to correct, but differences to understand and include.

What I Mean by a Neurodivergent-Affirming Stance

Many neurodivergent folks have a strong inner critical voice, which makes it even more painful to live with difference. It’s common for me to hear clients tell me that they see themself as lazy, unmotivated, or socially awkward.

I aim to bring awareness and compassion to how inner criticism and judgment show up, gently understand where these beliefs may have come from, and offer an alternative: being attentive to what genuinely supports you, rather than continuing the pattern of trying to fit you into a neurotypical ideal.

It might include thinking together about sensory overwhelm, shutdown or rejection sensitivity, not as personal failings but as protective responses. It might mean being explicit about expectations in therapy, pacing things differently, or making space for pauses without assuming something has gone wrong.

And it also means staying curious. Neurodivergence will likely not be the sole explanation for everything you experience. Attachment history, trauma, culture, family dynamics – all of these matter too. The aim isn’t to reduce you to a single diagnosis, but to hold this aspect of your experience alongside the others.

An Integrative, Relational Approach

My work is integrative and depth-oriented. Alongside practical support with boundaries or emotional regulation, we may explore how earlier relational experiences have shaped your sense of safety, belonging and worth.

If you’ve spent years adapting yourself and masking to fit in, therapy can become a place to start to unpack the impact this has had. That doesn’t mean rejecting it entirely – masking is often intelligent and protective – but to have more choice about when and how you use it.

Many neurodivergent adults I work with also hold queer or non-monogamous identities. Where that’s relevant, we can explore how these layers of experience interact, without assuming any single narrative about who you are.

What Change Might Look Like

Over time, therapy might support you to:

  • Feel less shame about the ways your nervous system works
  • Understand your attachment patterns without blaming yourself
  • Communicate in ways that feel more authentic
  • Recognise and respond to overwhelm earlier
  • Build relationships and environments that actually accommodate you
  • Feel more integrated and self-trusting
